The container ship GFS Pride sank after being struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority said, according to the BBC's October 14 report. All 21 crew members were evacuated, with no injuries reported.
The attack took place on October 13 and caused damage and a fire, the authority said. Another Singapore-flagged container ship, GFS Giselle, suffered hull damage from a projectile on October 14 but reached a safe anchorage with all 22 crew members.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards offered a different account of the sinking, saying a ship struck naval mines while traveling through a route they considered unauthorized.
