NASA is accepting applications for new flight directors at Johnson Space Center in Houston through Monday, Oct. 12, 2026. U.S. citizens can apply through the USAJOBS listing linked in NASA’s announcement.
The agency says candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics, along with substantial progressively responsible professional experience that includes time-critical decisions in high-stress, high-risk situations.
NASA says prior work as a flight controller is common but not required. Flight directors lead teams of flight controllers, astronauts and commercial and international partners during missions, and they help prepare operational plans before flight.
NASA plans to announce selections by the end of 2026. Those chosen will receive training in flight control, spacecraft systems, operational leadership and risk management.
