New England generated more wind power in the first nine months of 2026 than in all of 2025, according to an October 14 report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Output reached 4,619 gigawatthours, exceeding the previous year's 4,533 gigawatthours by 1.9%.

For January through September, monthly wind generation in the region averaged 68% higher than in the same months of 2025. September's 668.9 gigawatthours was the highest monthly output of 2026 through September: more than double the September 2025 level and nearly 10% above the previous high in March.

EIA attributed the increased generation to added wind capacity. Regional wind capacity rose 47% so far in 2026 to 2.5 gigawatts, following a 12% increase in 2025.

Daily output reached about 47.3 gigawatthours on October 6, a peak 1% above the previous peak on September 10.
