Faber has stopped supplying Sally Rooney's books to UK retailers, but shops can continue selling their existing printed stock, the BBC reported on October 14. UK ebook editions have already been removed from sale.
Waterstones told the BBC that Faber had advised there were no restrictions on booksellers keeping current copies on their shelves. Faber said it would continue selling Rooney's work in other territories.
The publisher said UK legislation had left it unable to pass UK earnings to Rooney and that it had agreed with her to halt supplies in all formats. Rooney said fulfilling UK publication contracts could constitute a serious criminal offense.
Rooney had previously said she would continue using royalties to support Palestine Action, which the UK designated a terrorist organization in 2025. In her October 14 statement, she noted that the group was not prohibited in the Republic of Ireland.
