The Federal Trade Commission says it is sending more than $9.8 million to consumers harmed by Walmart's alleged failure to stop scammers who used the retailer's wire-transfer services.

The payments follow Walmart's June 2025 settlement of FTC charges. The agency alleged that Walmart lacked effective anti-fraud procedures, failed to train employees properly and did not adequately warn customers about money-transfer fraud. The settlement requires the company to take steps to detect and prevent transfers induced by fraud.

For someone receiving a payment notice, the FTC's refund listings provide a way to check it. The agency says settlement payments and claim forms include information about the case, while its website lists the company handling payments and a phone number for questions. Compare those details before relying on a message claiming to be about a refund.

The FTC recommends typing its refund-site address into a browser instead of following links in messages that appear to come from the agency. It also says it never requires an upfront payment or sensitive information, such as a Social Security number or bank-account details, to obtain a refund.
