At her first White House briefing on October 13, 2026, Katie Zacharia said she would keep the New Media Seat and expand it where possible, according to the administration’s recap.
Zacharia, the 37th White House press secretary, backed the approach of her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt. She said “we are absolutely going to keep it,” while qualifying the proposed expansion as “to the extent possible.”
She also announced that Kentucky had been added to President Donald Trump’s midterm travel plans. Zacharia named Georgia, Kentucky and Florida as upcoming stops.
