House Speaker Mike Johnson raised concerns about plans to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, CNN reported on October 13, 2026.

Later on October 13, CNN carried Trump’s response when a reporter asked whether he had decided on livestreaming Hasan’s execution: “We’re looking at it.”

Johnson said a recording could become a recruiting tool for future terrorists and that officials needed to consider the policy implications. In the clip carried by CNN, he also said he would not watch the broadcast.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who serves Catholics in the U.S. military, condemned the livestream plan and urged Catholic service members asked to participate to seek to be excused, according to CNN.

Retired Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, a survivor of the Fort Hood shooting, drew a distinction between the punishment and its public presentation. He told CNN that he supported the death penalty for Hasan but opposed turning the execution into a public spectacle.
