President Donald Trump said Sen. John Cornyn and conservative commentator Karl Rove would be responsible if Republican Ken Paxton loses the Texas Senate race, according to CNBC's account of an October 15 Truth Social post.
Trump called the pair "WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks" and accused them of making it harder for Paxton to defeat Democrat James Talarico. His post addressed a possible future loss, not an election result.
Paxton, Texas's attorney general, defeated Cornyn in the Republican primary with Trump's endorsement. Talarico is a Democratic state representative. CNBC reported that most recent polls showed him ahead of Paxton by low-to-mid single digits.
Cornyn's office and Rove had not immediately responded to CNBC's requests for comment when its report was published.
