In a Fire Prevention Week message dated Oct. 5, 2026, the White House said it was honoring firefighters and first responders and reaffirming its commitment to strengthening fire prevention and emergency response nationwide.

The message urged Americans to start with basic home safety steps: make a home escape plan, test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every month, replace worn wiring and overloaded outlets, and practice safe charging habits for electronic devices.

It also said the administration signed an executive order last year to streamline federal wildfire response, strengthen local preparedness and use modern technology to detect and fight fires. The message said the administration is working to establish a United States Wildland Fire Service to better coordinate federal wildfire programs and respond more effectively when fires break out.
